I saw this on a facebook status today.

"In May 2010 Tohseef Shah spray painted a British War Memorial with "islam will dominate osama is coming" he was fined £75 & walked free from court. In November 2010, Emdadur Choudhury burned a Poppy during the 2mins silence. He too was given a £50 fine and walked free from court. Today, 2 men have been sentenced to 12 months in prison for spray painting a Poppy on a mosque. Welcome to the Great British justice system. F***ing Disgusting"

Now, despite what I say and what some people may think of me, I'm merely slightly right wing. I have no interest in reading right wing publications and I have no allegiance to BNP or EDL, I instantly presume that "storys" as above, are almost always fiction. Certain papers do indeed "spin" stories, or tell half truths, just to get a reaction.

So, I started looking into the story, the intention being that I would answer the post with some choice information and point out that, although on initial examination this story was truly outrageous, it was only half of the story.

So off I went, searching the news sites and Google and scanning the internet. Now to be fair this story is quite old, and it took a little while, but I did find some news sites that still had the story published.

Sadly however, after some reading it must be said.. I found this.

Hartlepool mosque graffiti trio sentenced
EDL trio on mosque attack charges

Two men who carried out a graffiti attack on a Teesside mosque have each been sentenced a year in prison.

Anthony Smith, 24, and Steven Vasey, 32, of County Durham, had previously admitted conspiracy to commit racially-aggravated criminal damage.

Charlotte Davies, 19, of Buckinghamshire, who also pleaded guilty to the same charge, was given a 12-week suspended sentence.

They attacked the Nasir Mosque, Hartlepool, in November last year.

Smith, of Neptune Way, Easington Colliery, and Vasey, of Prior's Grange, High Pittington, pleaded guilty during a hearing at Durham Crown Court in August.

And this

Now apparently the Graffiti attack by the Muslim was apparently "nothing at all" to do with his Religious beliefs.

Seriously. Read that again slowly.

He sprayed "ISLAM WILL DOMINATE THE WORLD, OSAMA IS COMING" and it was "nothing at all to do with his Religious beliefs"

Which begs the question, if Islam is a Religion and not a race, (there are white Muslims) how can the 3 people be charged with racially aggravated charges, but Shah was not?

If a graffiti attack on a war memorial by an Asian is merely "graffiti" (the overwhelming majority of British veterans are white, although there were also Muslims that fought in wars for Britain) and warrants a £75 fine, how can a graffiti attack on a mosque (where the majority of "users" are Asian) be worth 12 months in prison?

It is alarming these double standards. That these two idiots are given jail sentences for 12 months (which incidentally is no bad thing in itself) and yet people like Shah are given two figure fines, baffles me completely. Lets not also forget that in November 2010 Muslims from Muslims Against Crusades burnt poppies during the 2 minutes silence in an anti armistice day. I believe that they received a £50 fine as well. They were charged with public disorder charges.

This makes me furious; I can not explain how mad it makes me. On top of all of this there are plans being made for this years Armistice day celebrations as well.
Muslims Against Crusades have applied for permission to hold a rally;

"Firebrand cleric Anjem Choudary, who has links to the Muslims Against Crusades group, said: 'It's going to be called Hell for Heroes and it will be around the Royal Albert Hall."

I honestly ask you if we can allow a rally like this to go ahead. I would hope common sense will prevail and it would be stopped, it is just going to cause more problems for the police.

I don’t know what the answer is, but I know that at times like these I wish that maybe we were not so liberal towards people that obviously do not want to be part of our society.

I don’t know if I am angry, hurt or just sad.
